NYC! + Basic makeup guide.

In four hours from right now I will be on my way to the big apple! I'm just about ready to go! I just need to throw on the face, the bag is already packed! I can't wait to explore!

Basic Makeup Guide.

It can be terribly overwhelming to start a makeup collection, and sometimes expensive as well. I must admit that I'm a drugstore queen, I found makeup that is cheap and works extremely well for me. If you have the funds for top of the line makeup, go for it! This basic overview can work for drugstore, dollar-store, and top of the line cosmetics. I'm going to list these in order of how you use them, starting with foundation, and ending with some makeup brushes beginners should have.

The first thing one needs is a foundation. I've used quite a few different kinds, and I've finally found my favorite! It's Revlon Colorstay! It's a medium coverage foundation, that can be built into full coverage by adding another layer over the first. They have plenty of videos on Youtube that review foundations, do some research, then once you've found one that you absolutely want to try, go for it!

The next thing one needs is just a basic concealer. Concealer helps to better hide problem area's. Such as a scar, or even a raised acne blemish. It can also fix a makeup mistake, like if you mess up on your lipstick, you can conceal where the stain hits your foundation. Once again do your research and find one that you really think you'll enjoy! I use this one.

Next you must have a setting powder, as this prevents the foundation and concealer from shifting. It sets everything in place, and makes ones makeup last quite a bit longer. They have pressed powders, or loose powder. I prefer loose, just because I feel like it locks into my skin better than the pressed stuff. This is what I use.

Contouring, or bronzer. It's a way to add definition to the face. If you want to add depth to the face then look for a bronzer or contour shade that is matte, which means doesn't have a shimmer to it. If one is just bronzing the cheeks a shimmer can be nice and make the face look dewy and bright.

Blush is optional, and totally up to the applicants tastes. I rarely ever use it, just because my eyes and lips are usually so busy that I don't find it necessary to add extra color to my face.

Now we are onto eye shadows. When first starting your makeup collection start simple. Get a compact pallet with a few colors in it, and test them out. You can never go wrong with browns and light shimmery colors. My first eye shadow that I ever bought was a a trio of two browns, and an off white shimmer. Once again, you check up on some tutorials and find eye shadow colors that you really enjoy!

Eyeliner! This is completely up to personal preference but when one is first starting I'd advise that they use a retractable smudge stick, seeing that the application goes on smooth, rather than using a pencil. Pencils work really nicely for the waterline, but when you are lining your upper-lash line it sometimes get's clumped due to eye shadow. Research can really help you find the perfect match for your needs. there are so many types of liners out. You have the gel liners that come in the little containers, the liquid liners, the felt tip liner pencils... so many different kinds, colors, etc..

Now we are onto mascara! Everyone has their own favorite brand, mine happens to be Cover Girl great lash, it makes the lashes so long! And depending on how many coats you apply you can get them really thick as well. But, I suppose mascaras work differently for each persons eyelashes, start cheap and find one that you really like!

Lip color! Are you a lipstick queen, or a glossy vixen?... That's up for you to decide. You might just be both.  My staple go to color is always red, it always will be. There is just something so fantastic about deep red lips! Perhaps you're not into that? That is absolutely fine! They have just about every color one could imagine. I have a gold lipstick in my makeup bag, haha. Check out the color swatches for glosses and lipstick colors, and choose whatever ones you think will look best on you!

Makeup Brush Must Haves!

The first brush you must have is just a basic eye shadow brush. If you buy eye shadow and it comes with the little sponge applicator, just toss that out. They do more bad than good!

Next is a big fluffy brush so you can get any access powder off of your face!

An angled brush is also important if you want to more precisely darken the crease area, and it's perfect for adding color to the lower lash line, and setting the eyeliner on your upper-lash line and the waterline.

A blending brush is another great brush to have, because it smooths out harsh lines, and can blend colors together.
This was my first brush set, and I still use a couple of the brushes!
Hopefully this will help you start, or add to your makeup collection!
Thanks for reading! :)
